Formulation of new Long Term Development Plan (Vision)

Formulation of new Long Term Development Plan (Vision)

The Government of The Gambia has initiated the process of formulating a new long-term development plan (Vision). The new long-term development plan (Vision) will succeed the Vision 2020 which came to an end. The new long-term development plan will take cue from the implementation of the Vision 2020, the progress registered, and challenges encountered.

The formulation process will also learn from the Vision 2020 formulation process with a view to making the process very participatory and inclusive. For effective public and stakeholder engagement and participation, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs will work closely with key stakeholders to ensure that the process is participatory and inclusive and involves all Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), private sector, youth, women, children, CSOs/NGOs, development partners, political parties, trade unions, the media, and the citizenry. This will enhance ownership by stakeholders for effective implementation through series of medium-term national development plans, sector strategies, and regional development plans.

The 30-year long-term development plan (Vision), once completed, would serve as a strategic framework for the development of successive medium-term national development plans. The new long-term development plan (Vision) will also mainstream the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and the Agenda 2063. The Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs will coordinate the formulation of this new long-term development plan (Vision) in close collaboration with the Department of Strategy, Policy and Delivery (OP) and the Gambia Bureau of Statistics.
